How to clean your makeup brushes
One of the most important things to do as a makeup wearer is to regularly clean your makeup brushes. Not only will your application be smoother but it is a crucial step to keep the bacteria away. Its super easy to clean your brushes and your skin will thank you later!
what you’ll need:
soap: I like to use a block of velvet soap. you can get this from the laundry section in the supermarket (its like $3 for a pack of 6)
isopropyl alcohol: 70% isopropyl alcohol is great for killing bacteria. you can use this also to spot clean your brushes if you don’t have time for a deep clean.
a clean towel
optional additions to make the process easier:
silicone brush mat: a tool that will help get deeper into the brush bristles for a better clean.
glove: I like to use a disposable glove for extra protection/hygiene while cleaning
Start off by wetting your brush with warm water and start swirling the brush around in the block of soap.
Using either your hand or your silicone brush mat, create a lather using circular motions.
Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear.
Once the brush has been rinsed thoroughly, squeeze out any excess water and dry off the bristles as much as you can on a clean towel.
Leave the brush to air dry overnight.
*When placing the brushes to dry, make sure they are placed in a position so that the water cannot drip back into the brush as this can loosen the glue and cause damage.
Once the brushes are dry, you can spray some isopropyl alcohol onto the bristles and handles of the brush to sanitise.
And that’s it! Easy as. Ideally you want to deep clean your brushes once a fortnight if you use them daily, but we all know life gets in the way so try and aim for once a month.
