Preparing for your big day

Getting ready for your special day can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. Here is a few tips for you and the others getting their makeup done to help prepare for your morning to run as smooth as possible.

The weeks leading Up:

  • The prep in the lead up to the big day is just as important as the morning itself.

  • Skincare: Make sure to stick to your skincare routine in the months leading up to the big day. Your makeup will only look as good as what is underneath. If your skin is already glowing pre application, you know it’s going to look absolutely flawless after! A good place to start is washing your face and moisturising DAILY. A light exfoliation 1-2 times a week can help to remove any dry skin cells sitting on top of the skin. Don’t try out any new skincare in the weeks before in case of a reaction.

  • Drink plenty of water. Hydration is sooo important (your body and skin will thank you for it)

  • Make sure to do any facial hair removal 5-7 days before the day. If you have absolutely 0 hair on your face it will affect how the makeup sits ad lasts on your skin.

  • Derma planing is an extra step that removes the baby hairs on the face + gives it an exfoliation. Makeup sitting on top of skin that has been derma planed and hydrated is ✧chefs kiss✧.

  • IMPORTANT: Steam/Iron your outfits the NIGHT BEFORE!! Other than the fact that the person stuck with this task will miss out on all of the fun of the morning, steaming or ironing after your hair and makeup is done is a recipe for disaster.

The night before:

  • A light exfoliation to remove any dead skin cells. If you have a regular exfoliation routine do that, otherwise a face wash cloth will do the trick (you don’t need to do anything crazy)

  • Moisturiser + lip balm before bed. Hydration = key to a flawless application

  • If you’re feeling fancy, a hydrating sheet mask the night before can be a nice treat. I love the Hada Labo moisturising sheet mask.

  • Get a good night’s sleep! (This one feels self explanatory)

  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water (can you feel a theme going here?)

The day of the wedding:

  • Make sure to come ready with a clean, moisturised face. No makeup from last night- having to remove it before we start will eat into the timeline and we will have less time to spend actually glamming you up.

  • No SPF- I can add this on request. Some sunscreens can react to the makeup and affect longevity or even cause flashback in photos (you do not want that, trust me). I have sunscreen in my kit that has been tried an tested under makeup if its something you would like to add.

  • Put in your eyedrops and contacts in before we start.

During your appointment:

  • Where applicable, come prepared with your makeup inspo pics and ideas ready to go.

  • Be ready for your turn about 10-15 minutes before your allotted timeslot.

  • Avoid using your phone for the duration of the service. Use this time to sit back and relax. The morning goes by sooooo quickly so the time you have sitting in my chair is a great time to soak it all in.

Throughout the day (While your wearing the makeup)

  • Stop touching your face. The best way to have makeup NOT last is by consistently touching your face/ wiping your nose etc. etc.

  • If you feel a tear coming, try catching it before it falls. You can do this with a little cotton bud or a tissue rolled into a point.

  • If you don’t catch the tears before they fall - dab but don’t wipe. Just absorb the tear onto a tissue without moving it around onto your face too much

  • Have realistic expectations - we as artists do everything we can to ensure a long wearing application. However makeup is not indestructible and a bit of creasing etc. is inevitable where the face moves

The most important step

Have fun!! Don’t forget to breathe and take it all in as the day comes and goes so quickly!
