How to choose the right makeup inspo photos

When choosing your makeup inspiration photos before your next makeup appointment, consider these points to help you best explain the look you are after and achieve the makeup look you actually want.

-If you can, choose your inpso photos from your makeup artists own social accounts or website.

Choose a couple of photos with different elements you like eg. the eyeliner in one photo, the colours in the next photo and the glowy skin in another. You can kind of piece together elements to create a look that is gonna be best for you. Obviously we will alter it based on your preferences, but it is a great guide to loosely follow.

If you're scrolling through their portfolio and there isn’t a single element in any of the photos that you like, perhaps they aren’t the makeup artist for you. You want to choose your makeup artist because you love their style and work - this is what they are best at!

-Consider the model in the photos

If possible, it’s best to find photos of people with features similar to you to help get a better understanding how the makeup might look on your own face. Consider things like eye shape/colour, hair colour, skin tone, age etc.

-Find some photos of yourself wearing makeup

If you’ve had your makeup done in the past bring those in, even if you didn’t like it. Its good to see what you do and don’t like with pictures of yourself so we can know what you love and what to avoid.

Also you can bring in photos of your daily makeup routine, especially if there’s something you are quite specific about, like your brows

-Be realistic

At the end of the day, your inspiration photos are just that - inspiration. Makeup isn’t a cut and paste situation - how makeup looks on someone in the photos isn’t exactly how it will look on you, because they have a different face!

Another thing to be mindful about is photoshopping and filters. It can be very hard to detect editing sometimes, especially photos pulled from google or Pinterest. Remember not to compare yourself and be mindful that sometimes these photos we see online may not even be how that person looked in real life either!

And if you have no idea what look you are after, that is totally fine too! I am here to help guide you to achieve a makeup look you feel absolutely amazing in ♡
